Own a piece of High Sierra history with this USFS cabin in Big Meadow near Bear Valley. This classic 1930’s cabin is a rustic original. Sit by the fire in front of a huge native stone fireplace. The upstairs has 8 beds. Water is pumped from a well to a cistern on top of a water tank tower. There is no electricity in the cabin. Propane runs the refrigerator and cook top. A small solar system provides light-duty electrical. These USFS cabins are privately owned through Forest Service permits like a land lease. You don’t pay property tax but a permit fee to the USFS. There are several restrictions to owning these types of cabins such as keeping the color scheme and footprint.
